Be smart, play clever, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed down south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and across the country. A good many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
